The Challenge

Communities across Northeast Nigeria face compounding climate stress, shifting rainfall, shrinking water sources, and pressure on agricultural livelihoods, layered on top of conflict and displacement. Development partners needed credible, locally grounded evidence to design resilience programming that reflected real exposure and adaptation options rather than assumptions.

Context

The Lake Chad Basin is one of the most complex operating environments in the world, where climate, conflict, and humanitarian need intersect. Evidence generated here must be conflict-sensitive, methodologically robust, and validated by the communities and institutions it describes.

What We Did

AJ Global designed and delivered a mixed-methods evidence study combining key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and community consultations with scenario analysis. The work mapped adaptation pathways and produced stakeholder-validated climate risk profiles to inform programme design.
